Its Chillout Festival again in Daylesford! YAY!!
I feel so much love for our little Town having one of the biggest Festivals celebrating the LGBTIQ community. If you have never been here during ChillOut, you are in for a treat! The whole of Daylesford is decked out in rainbow flags, people come from near and far for 4 days, from 7th- 11th March. This years program is full of awesome events....Cocktail parties, Art Auctions, Cabaret Acts, Music, Dance parties, and the Annual Street Parade, all dedicated to Queer Country Pride.
Yaassss! Spring at Last!!
In Daylesford, the early signs of Spring are the Flowers. First the Daffodils, then the Snowdrops, then the Blossom trees....infusing the breeze with a beautiful Floral scent. I Love it! New Life, a Fresh Season and the promise of warmer weather.
As an ode to Spring, and to frock weather, showcasing my Top 10 Floral Frock choices at Alt Finery.
Camouflage has a really interesting history. The word "Camouflage" derived from French Slang, from the words "Camouflier" (to Veil or Disguise) and "Camouflet" ( to blow smoke in ones Face") The French Military were the first ones to develop Camouflage in 1915 by employing Artists as Camouflage Officers otherwise known as "Les Camoufleurs" They began with 30 Artists, and by the end of the war effort in WW1 had expanded to over 3,000 Artists. They hand painted fabric for Uniforms and painted Massive canvas Screens to hide whole Military Camps. By the end of the war it was estimated that 7 Million square yards of fabric was used.
So Winter comes....and out comes the sea of Black Puffer Jackets! Don't get me wrong....I love Black! ...and I know they really warm and easy, and you can practically chuck them over your Pjs and Uggies....and really in this crap weather who would not want to basically wear a water proof Doona outside! But what about colour?
As a result of Chillout, I have met some really Amazing people, a lot of Queens and Cross dressers who have had a lot of "less than fabulous" experiences when they shop retail. Shop assistants who are unhelpful and judging.
Anyways, it has made me realise that backing the LGBTIQ community loud and proud and letting the Rainbow flag fly every day of the year is important and letting the whole LGBTIQ community know that they can expect s Fun Positive Fashion experience at ALT.
What I love about our fashion at Alt Finery, is that we have fun with it! We are not slavishly trying to follow trends or playing it safe, We take fashion risks....and I like that. Looking at our eclectic mix of patterns and styles I was thinking about how each era of Fashion since the 50s could be represented in our store and in present day fashion in general, which brings me to this weeks blog.
This week I'm continuing my on going exploration of Fashion and History, I'm investigating Fashion Trends through the modern ages...From the 1950s to present and looking at how social and cultural factors influenced Fashion, and how these influences effect present Fashion.
